Conscious Competence Model

The Conscious Competence Model, is a psychological framework created by Noel Burch in the 1970s. It describes the progression of learning and skill acquisition. It outlines how individuals move from a state of not knowing what they don’t know to a state where they can perform tasks effortlessly without conscious thought. This model is often used in education, training, and personal development to help learners and instructors understand the process of acquiring new skills and knowledge.

The four stages of the Conscious Competence Model are:

  1. Unconscious Incompetence
  2. Conscious Incompetence
  3. Conscious Competence
  4. Unconscious Competence
