Dick and Carey Model

The Dick and Carey Model is a systematic instructional design framework that breaks down the process into ten interrelated components, from analyzing needs to evaluating outcomes. This model is based on the research of Walter Dick, Lou Carey, and James Carey. The nine components are:

  2. Conduct instructional analysis 
  3. Analyze learners
  4. Write performance objectives 
  5. Develop assessment instruments 
  6. Develop instructional strategy 
  7. Develop and select instructional materials 
  8. Design and conduct formative evaluation of instruction 
  9. Revise instruction 
  10. Design and conduct summative evaluation of instruction
