Psychomotor learning refers to the development of physical skills and abilities through practice, repetition, and hands-on experience. This type of learning involves the coordination of cognitive functions with motor activities, resulting in the mastery of tasks that require physical movement and precision. Psychomotor learning is essential in fields that require technical skills, manual dexterity, and the ability to perform tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
While Bloom’s original taxonomy, introduced in 1956, primarily focused on the cognitive domain, a psychomotor domain was later developed to address the learning objectives related to physical skills and motor activities. The psychomotor domain categorizes the levels of physical skill development from basic movements to complex, coordinated actions.
The psychomotor domain according to Benjamin Bloom is: Imitation, Manipulation, Precision, Articulation, and Naturalization.
