SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model)
SCORM, which stands for Sharable Content Object Reference Model, is a set of technical standards developed to ensure interoperability, reusability, and tracking of eLearning content across different Learning Management Systems (LMS). SCORM was invented by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative, a research program established by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1997. The goal of SCORM was to create a unified set of standards that would allow eLearning content to be shared and reused across various platforms, thus making online training more efficient and scalable.
SCORM standards specify how eLearning content should be packaged, how it communicates with LMSs, and how learner interactions are tracked. For example, SCORM allows a course created on one platform to be exported and then imported into another LMS without requiring significant modifications, ensuring that the content behaves consistently regardless of the system used.
