TrainingPros Launches Consultant Benchmarking Exchange with Discussion on Learning in the Flow of Work
October 23, 2026
TrainingPros launched its new Consultant Benchmarking Exchange on October 23, bringing together experienced Learning and Development (L&D) professionals for a peer-to-peer conversation about Learning in the Flow of Work (LIFOW).
The Consultant Benchmarking Exchange is a new TrainingPros initiative designed to give L&D consultants opportunities to share real-world experiences, compare approaches, explore emerging practices, and learn from one another. Unlike traditional webinars or training sessions, these exchanges emphasize open discussion among professionals who have worked directly with the topics being explored.
The inaugural session focused on how organizations can help employees access the knowledge, guidance, and support they need while performing their jobs, rather than relying exclusively on formal training.
Moving Learning Closer to the Work
Throughout the discussion, participants shared examples of integrating learning and performance support into everyday work. Examples included providing step-by-step technical guidance directly at manufacturing workstations, developing interactive resources to help salespeople respond to customer objections, and using AI-powered conversational tools to help employees practice difficult interactions.
Participants also explored approaches that require little technology, reinforcing that effective learning in the flow of work is not defined by a particular platform, tool, or content format.
A recurring theme was the importance of understanding the performance problem before recommending a learning solution. Participants discussed how to recognize opportunities for workplace support, when traditional training remains necessary, and how the two approaches can complement each other.
Connecting Learning to Business Performance
The conversation also explored challenges consultants encounter when introducing learning approaches that differ from traditional training. Participants emphasized the importance of connecting proposed solutions to business objectives, engaging stakeholders early, and designing resources around the realities of employees’ work.
Another significant topic was measurement. Consultants discussed the limitations of relying on course completion rates and the need to evaluate whether learning interventions actually improve workplace performance. The exchange highlighted the expanding role of L&D consultants in helping organizations solve performance problems.
Creating Opportunities for Consultants to Learn from One Another
The Consultant Benchmarking Exchange reflects TrainingPros’ commitment to supporting the professional growth of the consultants in its nationwide network. By connecting experienced practitioners around specific L&D challenges, TrainingPros aims to create opportunities for consultants to learn from their peers, consider new approaches, and bring additional value to the organizations they support.
The Learning in the Flow of Work discussion was the first in what TrainingPros plans to make an ongoing series of conversations addressing practical challenges and emerging opportunities in Learning and Development.
