Case Study: Transforming Leadership: Revamping a Hospitality Training Program for Lasting Impact
Executive Summary
TrainingPros’ hospitality client sought to enhance its new leader immersion program to better equip managers and owners with the skills and knowledge needed for success. TrainingPros partnered with our client to redesign the program, introducing a more structured learning path, interactive experiences, and enhanced training materials. The result was a more engaging and impactful program that improved participant confidence, knowledge retention, and overall operational effectiveness.
The Challenge
The client’s existing new leader immersion program, while informative, lacked a cohesive structure and interactive elements necessary for deep learning. New managers and franchise owners needed a program that not only provided essential operational knowledge but also fostered engagement and practical application. Additionally, measuring the effectiveness of the program was a challenge, limiting insights into its long-term impact.
The Solution
TrainingPros collaborated with the client to revamp the new leadership development program by leveraging the expertise of our instructional design consultants. The approach included:
- Conducting an in-depth analysis of the existing program to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
- Redesigning the learning path to create a more structured and engaging experience.
- Developing new instructor-led training (ILT) materials, including interactive role-play exercises and simulations.
- Creating high-quality videos to reinforce key concepts and provide visual demonstrations.
- Implementing 360-degree feedback exercises to provide participants with valuable insights into their leadership styles and areas for growth.
- Integrating hands-on instructor-led training at local properties to ensure real-world application of housekeeping and maintenance best practices.
Additionally, the revamped program was structured as a week-long training course held at the corporate office for managers and owners who were within 60-90 days of joining the organization. During the week, trainees interacted with more than 20 corporate resources who provided insight into their respective departments. The facilitator’s goal was to help the managers learn how to best utilize the available information and maximize revenue potential. Engaging methods such as role-playing, interactive games, and discussions were incorporated to enhance the learning experience.
Participants also built relationships through a series of learning and team activities, applying the organization’s purpose, culture, core values, and experiences to better manage their teams and properties. The program also included a day of hands-on training at a local hotel, where managers focused on both maintenance and housekeeping best practices.
The Result
The redesigned new leadership development program provided participants with a more engaging and comprehensive learning experience. Key outcomes included:
- Stronger knowledge retention: The addition of role-playing, simulations, and hands-on training improved participant engagement and comprehension.
- Enhanced leadership skills: 360-degree feedback exercises helped managers and owners develop a deeper understanding of their strengths and areas for improvement.
- Operational improvements: Hands-on training ensured consistency in property management best practices, leading to more efficient operations.
- Positive participant feedback: Surveys conducted throughout the program indicated a high level of satisfaction, with many participants expressing increased confidence in their ability to manage their teams and properties effectively.
- Improved employee engagement: The program contributed to a 1% increase in providing information required to do their job and a 2% increase in effectively communicating goals and results, as reflected in Employee Engagement survey scores.
By revamping the program, TrainingPros helped the hospitality client create a more impactful and sustainable training experience, setting up new leaders for long-term success.
